International Congress on Domestic Animal Breeding Genetics and Husbandry - 2019

ICABGEH - 19

Prague, Czechia - September 11 - 13, 2019

The International Congress on Domestic Animal Breeding Genetics and Husbandry - 2019 (ICABGEH-19) congress is organized by the Agricultural Faculty of Ondokuz Mayıs University and hosted by Interhotel Ambassador Zlata Husa, Prague. ICABGEH-19 is the third international event of meeting series with the participation of very popular invited speakers Prof. Dr. Cathy DWYER (Scotland’s Rural College), Prof. Dr. Kaspar BIENEFELD (Humboldt University), Prof. Dr. Adem KAMALAK (Sutcu Imam University) and Prof. Dr. Muhammad KHALID (The Royal Veterinary College). This event has brought together leading researchers, engineers and scientists in the domain of interest from around the world. It also provides opportunities for the delegates to exchange new ideas and application experiences face to face, to establish business or research relations and to find global partners for future collaboration.

The organizing committee is seriously planning and is already working towards enabling international animal science scientific community to meet the challenges and to move safely and successfully into the advanced information era. To this end, ICABGEH-19 has been focused on recent developments, as far as research on animal science aiming at protecting the environment and food safety. Thus, ICABGEH-2019 has achieved its main twofold objective: Firstly, the presentation of current research works in the field of animal science, and secondly, connecting the animal science community.

Prof. Dr. Cathy DWYER

Prof Cathy Dwyer has been head of the Animal Behaviour and Welfare Research Team at Scotland’s Rural College (SRUC) in Edinburgh since 2011. Since 2016 Cathy is also the Director of the Jeanne Marchig International Centre for Animal Welfare Education at the Royal (Dick) School of Veterinary Studies at the University of Edinburgh. The Centre provides animal welfare education for veterinarians, and other groups, in the UK and overseas, particularly in Asia, and seeks to improve the lives of animals through veterinary education. The work of the research team at SRUC addresses animal welfare problems and seeks solutions for all the major farmed species, and is one of the largest animal welfare research groups in Europe. Cathy’s research interests include maternal behaviour, offspring development and neonatal survival, pain and the welfare of animals kept in extensive management conditions. Her work spans a fundamental understanding of the biology of behaviour and stress to application in the field where she works closely with advisers and consultants to provide solutions to welfare problems. Cathy has a BSc degree in Physiology from the University of Bristol and a PhD from Royal Veterinary College, London. In 2013 Cathy was awarded the BSAS/RSPCA award for outstanding contribution to animal welfare, and she is a member of the EU Animal Welfare Platform. She teaches on the MSc programmes in Applied Animal Behaviour and Welfare, and the online programme in International Animal Welfare Ethics and Law, and is currently supervising 7 PhD students, addressing welfare issues in sheep and horses. She has written over 90 refereed articles and book chapters, and is editor of the book 'The Welfare of Sheep'. According to Web of Science, his average citations per item is 17

Prof. Dr. Kaspar BIENEFELD

Prof. Dr. Kaspar BIENEFELD has got a bachelor of Agricultural Science from Bonn University. He has got a degree, doctor of philosophy from Munich University; he works at Humboldt University since 1997. Dr. BIENEFELD currently works at the department Breeding & Behavior, of Bee Research Institute HohenNeuendorf as a director. Dr. BIENEFELD is currently involved in various projects spanning genome-wide association studies on disease resistance, establishing genomic selection for several traits of interest, long term simulation studies for sustainable genetic progress in small populations, and cryopreservation of honey bee semen. Being one of the world-leading experts in honey bee breeding, he is involved in several honeybees’ breeding programs, especially for subspecies facing extinction in the Near East. He was/is the coordinator of various EU and national projects (e.g. SmartBees, with a budget of 6 Mio. Euro which is the biggest EU-funded research project on the sustainability of beekeeping). His research resulted in over 250 journal articles and several books and according to Web of Science, his average citations per item is 11.

Prof. Dr. Muhammad KHALID

Prof. Dr. Muhammad Khalid is a veterinarian trained from the College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore and had MSc (Hons) in Animal Reproduction.  He obtained his PhD from the University of Nottingham, UK, during which he worked on the control of gonadotrophins release. His interest in neuroendocrinology made him move to the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign, the USA where he worked with Professor Gary Jackson on the Control of GnRH release using the Push-pull perfusion technique. He was then taught as Assistant Professor in the College of Veterinary Sciences, Lahore for a period of 3 years.  Subsequently, he joined University of Nottingham, UK as a Research Fellow to work on defective luteal function in ruminants before moving to the Royal Veterinary College in 1999.  At the RVC, his research has expanded to include urinary incontinence in the dog along with different aspects of ruminant reproduction.  Currently, he is interested in investigating the mechanisms involved in the relaxation of the cervix on which he is going to talk about.  He has over 100 research papers published in peer-review journals and is a Diplomat of the European College of Animal Reproduction (ECAR).

Prof. Dr. Adem KAMALAK

Prof. Dr. Adem KAMALAK has got a bachelor's degree from Ankara University in Turkey. He has got a master’s and PhD degree in Animal Nutrition from Newcastle University in the UK. He is expertise in alternative feedstuffs for ruminant animals.  He and his colleagues have got a patent for an additive used in ensiling of alfalfa plant to improve the silage quality.  Dr. Adem KAMALAK has got a great contribution in providing information about some of the alternative feedstuffs used in ruminant diets. Last year He and his colleagues started a new project in which they screened the tree and shrub leaves in terms of antimethanogenic potential to mitigate the enteric methane production during the fermentation. They have already found some trees and shrubs which have high anti-methanogenic potential. He has published more than 60 articles in leading refereed academic journals in animal nutrition.  He has more than 1200 citations.
